The first month of school has
flown by! And I apologize for not updating sooner but I have been busy! Here are some pictures of the...what I consider awesome-ness...that the students saw at the beginning of the school year...
This is our "I Can" board. As students achieve these goals, their names will be placed on the circle. |
We have been SO busy learning the
routines to make sure we have a great year of school. We are working on recognizing our names,
becoming good listeners, and working with our friends. Here I go trying to catch y'all up on all of the excitement! On the first day of school I took these pictures to share with parents at Open House! They were of course a hit!
Some of the themes we have covered are School Days, Physical Me, Family, and Friends. During School
Days we took a tour of our school following clues left behind by Chester
the Raccoon from The Kissing Hand. We also learned about our classroom and the rules and routines for Morning Meeting, going to centers, going to the bathroom, going to lunch,...pretty much everything we have to do at school! We learned the Pledge of Allegiance and created flags of our own.
During Physical Me we talked
about the parts of our body and what we do with them. We practiced drawing ourselves with the help of MatMan in the Handwriting Without Tears program. We also had fun making ourselves with funny faces!
During Family
we discovered that everyone’s family is different but all families love and
take care of one another. We read The Napping House and identified the characters in the story. We then talked about who lives in our house and who could be napping!
And during our
Friends unit we have learned that
friends work together, share, and help.
We have had lots of fun working together! We read The Rainbow Fish and discussed that friends share, sometimes when they don't want to, but because that makes their friends happy! We then worked together, like a good group of friends, to create our very own rainbow fish and a friendship wreath.
