We are PreK, and we do learn through play, but we also have lots to learn before going into Kindergarten! We use the following programs to help us accomplish and learn everything we need to learn!
Zoo-Phonics
This program uses animals and movements to help us learn our letters and the sounds they make.
The students are first introduced to the Zoo-Phonics animals, the sound each one makes (the letter sound), and the motion. The students are then introduced to the merged letter/animal. This shows the letter behind the animal. Eventually the animal is removed completely and the student is able to recognize just the letter and the sound that letter makes without the animal picture involved.

Handwriting Without Tears
This program incorporates hands-on activities and good handwriting habits to develop strong writers. We use this program to engage students with music, movement, fine motor activities, and child-friendly language.
In teaching the students how to write their letters we start with the uppercase letters and move to the lowercase letters. This is because most uppercase letters are written with straight lines. It is proven that lines are easier for younger students to write than curves. If students find writing easy, they will want to continue to write!
